POST 7
I chose a person that I admire on the field of science, the person who I chose was Eloisa Diaz Insunza, the first woman to graduate and get a degree.

Eloisa Diaz was born on June 25, 1866 in Santiago de Chile, daughter of Eulogio Diaz Varas and Carmela Insunza.

In 1880 she applied to Medicine School of the University of Chile, following the enactment of a law in 1877 that allowed the admission of women into the University of Chile.

She graduated on Medicine on December 27, 1886, publishing a thesis manuscript entitled “Breves observaciones sobre la aparición de la pubertad en la mujer chilena y las predisposiciones patológicas del sexo.

She received her professional title on January 3, 1887, becoming the first woman in Chile to graduate and get a degree in Medicine. She died in 1950 in her hometown, Santiago de Chile, at the age of 84 years.

It was one of six female doctor - surgeons who graduated in Chile in the nineteenth century. In 1910 she was honored as a distinguished woman of America for her contributions to social medicine.

I admire her because she was able to study even in an environment where the female vote wasn’t allowed and she was distinguished in the area of science.
